Create the HTC Hero phone in Photoshop
Posted on May 20th, 2010
In this Photoshop tutorial we will be creating a very realistic copy of the HTC Hero phone. This Photoshop tutorial will teach you all sorts of useful techniques which you can apply to other graphics you may be working on. This is what the end result of this Photoshop tutorial will be.

Step 1
Let’s start out by creating a new file. I used a 600×600 pixels canvas set at 72dpi, and I filled my background with white. Now make a new layer set and name it ‘HTC Hero’. In a new layer draw a large rounded rectangle with #586073 color shade and 195 x 389 px dimensions. Then cut the shape at bottom shown below and paste what you cut through Edit.

Step 2
Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add an Inner Shadow, Satin and Stroke blending options to the large cut out rounded rectangle layer.

The result of which should look like this.

Step 3
Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add an Inner Shadow, Inner Glow, Satin, Gradient Overlay and Stroke blending options to the smaller cut out rounded rectangle layer.

It should now look something like this.

Step 4
In a new layer draw a small rounded rectangle with #586073 color shade and 61 x 16 px dimensions on the bottom right side of the device.

Step 5
Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add an Inner Shadow, Inner Glow, Gradient Overlay and Stroke blending options to the small rounded rectangle layer.

Once done it should look like this.

Step 6
Now select the Horizontal Type Tool then set the font family to Webdings, 11 pt, smooth and white color shade. In a new text layer type ‘L’ for one of the icon on the rounded rectangle buttom. Then change the text layer to Wingdings and in a new text layer type ‘Q’.

Step 7
In a new layer draw a small circle with #E0E9EF color shade and 23 x 23 px dimensions.

Step 8
Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add an Outer Glow, Inner Glow and Stroke blending options to the small circle layer.

It should end up something like this.

Step 9
In a new layer draw a small sqaure with #E29738 color shade and 19 x 19 px dimensions on the bottom left side of the device. Then under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add an Inner Glow and Stroke blending options.

The result should be this.

Step 10
In a new layer draw a large dark rounded rectangle with #0D0E12 color shade and 37 x 37 px dimensions on the top part of the device.

Step 11
Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add an Inner Glow and Gradient Overlay blending options to the large dark rounded rectangle layer.

After that’s done you should end up with this.

Step 12
Now add a screen design on the device with 167 x 248 px dimensions. Use the sample design below if you want. You can of course use whatever wallpaper you like.

Step 13
Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add an Inner Glow, Gradient Overlay and Stroke blending options to your screen design layer.

You’ll end up with the following.

Step 14
Create a new layer, just above the screen draw a thin rectangle with #1F2228 color shade and 101 x 6 px dimensions.

Step 15
Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add an Inner Shadow, Satin, Gradient Overlay and Stroke blending options to the thin rectangle layer.

With those layer styles applied the rectangle should look something like this.

Step 16
In a new layer draw a small rounded rectangle with #87899E color shade and 31 x 11 px dimensions just below the screen design.

Step 17
Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add an Inner Shadow, Inner Glow and Stroke blending options to the small rounded rectangle layer from the last step.

It should look like this.

Step 18
Now duplicate the small rounded rectangle button four times and position them next to each other. In separate text layers add small white icons and text on the buttons. I used font webdings with the letters ‘J’, ”q’ and ‘G’ for the icons.

Step 19
Above the screen add the HTC logo, grab the psd for that here. Then in a new layer draw a small white circle next to the small rounded rectangle buttons.

And we’re done
And that’s it. If you’ve managed to follow all the steps correctly you should now have a very realistic looking HTC Hero phone.
